Arlo Hotel Now Open and it’s Wynwood’s Very First Hotel

Arlo Wynwood Hotel Now Open
Arlo Wynwood Hotel Now Open

Wynwood now has the newest hotel from independent, experience-driven hotel chain Arlo Hotels, which already operates hotels in Miami Beach and other parts of New York City. Arlo Wynwood, a new hotel in Miami’s most unique area, combines art and peace with nonstop entertainment.

The hotel is the first to open in Miami’s premier creative and cultural neighborhood, which is home to the most street art in the entire world. With guest rooms starting at $239 a night, the 9-story hotel, with 217 rooms will be a cultural hub for locals and tourists alike and offer intelligent travelers prime access to the best of the area.

The hotel’s signature restaurant, MaryGold’s, a “Florida brasserie,” was designed by the James Beard-nominated team of Brad Kilgore and Bar Lab and is located to your right as you enter.

The hotel was created by Meyer Davis, a highly esteemed company at the forefront of international, luxury commercial design. It embraces an eclectic industrial look where organic meets modern while drawing on the neighborhood’s bold and well-curated creative nature.

A flawlessly balanced tension between the natural and the artificial is achieved by contrasting warm, earthy materials with crisp, modern finishes and vibrant accents that create subtle richness through a delightfully welcoming palette. In keeping with the Arlo Hotels brand, the establishment’s sizable living room and lounge areas foster amicable interactions and creative connections among visitors, employees, and members of the neighborhood. The spaciousness of the main spaces reflects the friendly vibe that distinguishes Wynwood.

The property’s rooftop pool and bar, which are now only accessible to guests, are its main attractions. Huge red and white striped umbrellas and cabanas line the edge of the pool.

The airport is only roughly 15 minutes away from the hotel, and the Brightline station is even closer. Wynwood is Arlo’s fifth site; the other four are the Nautilus in Miami and three other hotels in New York City.

According to CEO of Quadrum Global of Arlo Hotels, Oleg Pavlov, “Wynwood is one of the most vibrant districts in Miami. We’ve been eager to develop a hotel in the neighborhood, and with an increasing number of tech-forward businesses moving their headquarters to Wynwood, we feel this is a great time. The year-over-year hotel occupancy in the broader downtown market has grown nearly 30%. We’re thrilled to debut Arlo Wynwood as the premier hotel in the neighborhood. The property will embody Wynwood’s renowned artistic flair and offer first-rate restaurants, bars, wellness programming, and entertainment for guests and locals alike.”

Pharrell Williams Unveils Billionaire Boys Club’s Wynwood Flagship

Pharrell Williams Opens Billionaire Boys Club Store in Wynwood

Fans of the upscale streetwear company Billionaire Boys Club (BBC)/ICECREAM are in for a treat with its newest 5,000-square-foot location designed by Snarkitecture in Miami’s Wynwood. Pharrell Williams and NIGO founded the retail company, which has been shaping societal conventions since 2003 with its cutting-edge collaborations and statement artwork with a sporty flair.

Williams has a long history of influencing Miami culture through several hotel-related projects, most notably The Goodtime Hotel, which he co-founded with Groot Hospitality chief David Grutman. His most recent BBC location in Wynwood is sure to bring about a fresh surge of success for the retail industry.

According to Williams, “I’m very grateful that we have the opportunity to bring our flagship store to Miami. It’s going to be a place where people can come in to get inspired by the mix of fashion, culture, art, and design. I can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve created here, it’s really special.”

By designing the store as an art gallery in an effort to inspire new forms of customer connection, the founders have produced an immersive brand experience that has transformed the D2C paradigm, the brand’s other U.S. flagship located in New York.

While the inside design was imagined through the eyes of an artist and will display regional and international works, the exterior walls of the store will act as a blank canvas for specific art installations by affiliated artists.

With its brick-and-mortar facility situated in a neighborhood infused with the same street spirit the company is established upon, BBC ICECREAM intends to tap into the creative energy of the locals.

The store, which is both modern and earthy, serves as an appropriate backdrop for enduring brands like Bee Line, Human Made, Adidas, MEDICOM, and more, as well as for special collaborative products from designers like Bunny Shapiro and CDG Play, selected by Sarah Andelman.

According to Alexandre, the overall goal of BBC ICECREAM is to act as a platform for creatives, which is what Pharrell and NIGO kept in mind while they created the brand and incorporated its numerous cultural facets.

As more companies migrate to south Florida, we are seeing more office spaces renting out, new mixed-use construction and now more than ever, new mixed-use projects. More recently, RAL Tricap Wynwood LLC has proposed a mixed-use twin tower project in the Wynwood Arts District.

Located at Northwest Fifth Avenue and 27th Street, these two 8 story buildings are proposed to have over 250,000 square feet of office and retail space. Dubbed the names, Wyn on 5th North and WYN on 5th South, this twin developments was review by the city in March 2022 and the developers are just waiting on final approvals.

Wyn on 5th North will feature 106,414 square feet of office plus 6,961 square feet of retail and 268 parking space with available bike spaces. Wyn on 5th South will showcase 139,254 square feet of offices, 16,000 square feet of retail, and 377 parking spaces. Each garage will be enclosed and will feature a roof deck.

The project was envisioned to encompass work and play into one creative space. The developer is looking to advertise to local and national companies who wish to be at the beginning stages of the Miami’s financial and tech scene.

According to the attorney, Steve Wernick, “Together, the buildings create a landmark arrival and visual gateway into the Wynwood Arts District from NW 5th Avenue, and significant public realm improvements that will enhance the connectivity and pedestrian experience of Wynwood – extending 24/7 activity to the Fifth Avenue corridor.”

The project itself will be designed Arquitectónica. Although the board recommended approval they still had some commend concerning the design, which were called “two decorated boxes.” They wish to see buildings that resembled more of what the Wynwood Design District is and what the area is all about. Another recommendation included the artwork on the exterior of the building to encompass the vibe of Wynwood.

The site is the former home of the Art by God fossil and taxidermy store with over 13,000+ square foot building. Ironstate and Brookfield purchased the property in 2021 for $15.6 million.

Between the two developers, they have built over 3,000 condos using the ‘Urby’ name throughout New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey. If approved, this will be their first project in Florida.

The project is scheduled to be reviewed by the Wynwood Design Review Committee on April 12, 2022. Wynwood Urby would rise 8 stories tall and span over 371,632 square feet. Related Group along with W5 Group Break Ground on Wynwood Project-W28

Wynwood's W28
Wynwood's W28

In Miami’s Wynwood art’s district, the Related Group has partnered with W5 Group on a massive mixed-use project. According to a press conference, the Related Group has officially began construction with the ground breaking of the project, W28.

W5 Group has been the lead equity partner in the development, committing 80% of the capital for the project. The location of the development will be at 33, 45, and 51 NW 28th Street in Wynwood. The tower is being designed by Arquitectonica.

W28 will feature 200 fully furnished units that will be designed for co-living. The development will also feature 3,600 square feet of ground floor retail, co-working space, common areas, fitness center, rooftop pool, and outdoor space for activities.

The concept came to the founder of W5 because he believed that millennials needed affordable house with a co-living concept.

“As neighborhoods become more desirable, young people are often priced out. Co-living is an exciting proposition that offers tremendous value, enabling them to experience modern living in highly attractive units – all while meeting like-minded individuals and forming rewarding new bonds in coveted metropolitan areas,” stated found of W5.

The Related Group purchased the 2.1 acre site for $6.5 million in June 2021 for the 3 properties that consisted of a 12-unit apartment building, 4 bedroom house, and an additional vacant lot.

The Related Group has already completed Wynwood 25, a different co-living project that was co-developed along with East End Capital. The Related Group is also planning an additional project located at 2801 NW 3rd Avenue that they paid $32 million for last year.

“According to The Related Group executive vice president Jon Perez. “This collaboration with W5 Group is consistent with our commitment to ensuring that every new project in Wynwood, regardless of size and scale, enhances the neighborhood’s livability without compromising its rich culture.”

Wynwood’s First Mixed-Use Project with Over 1M Square Feet

The Wynwood Plaza Wynwood
The Wynwood Plaza Wynwood

L&L Holding Co. and Carpe Real Estate Partners are partnering for one of the largest mixed-use projects to rise in Wynwood. Working with the City of Miami Planning Department, the approval process is officially in the final stages.

Dubbed the name, The Wynwood Plaza, formerly 29N, will be sited on 95 NW 29th Street in the heart of Wynwood. The plan was originally brought in from Miami’s Urban Development Review Board in October where it was recommended for denial. The development team didn’t take no for an answer and continued to work on the board’s concerns over the project.

The concerns of the project included massing along 30th Street and the cross-block passage car access along NW 29th Street. The one-way vehicle passage was refined with a small footprint. One of the mitigations included the midblock access point would be limited to visitor cars managed by the valet.

The project, designed by Gensler, would feature two towers, one 12 and one 8 stories with 509 apartments. There would also be 266,000 square feet of offices, 32,000 square feet of commercial/retail spaces, 688 parking spaces, and 954 bike spaces.

The design itself will incorporate indoor and outdoor spaces that will benefit not only the residents but also the surrounding neighborhood. This design will include 25,000 square feet of a public plaza on the ground floor.

The groundbreaking for the project is scheduled for early this year with an anticipated completion date in 2024.

South Miami Welcomes NYC Restaurant in Summer 2022

Pastis Restaurant in Miami
Pastis Restaurant in Miami

Over the past year, Miami has seen a swarm of NYC eateries heading south including Carbone and COTE. Now we can add the Parisian-style bistro Pastis to the list. Pastis is famous for being the go-to French fare in the Meatpacking district and many celebrities have been known to frequent this famous restaurant.

Stephen Starr, James Beard Award-winning chef, and Keith McNally are the masterminds behind Pastis that have been in business for nearly 15 years. The new location is expected to open in the summer of 2022 at 380 NW 26th Street in the Wynwood neighborhood.

The design of the new location will be similar to NYC’s location. Designed by Paisely Design, the Miami location will feel like a “time-worn Parisian bistro.” Hardwood plans, a curved zinc bar, dark banquettes, subway tile, and vintage mirrors will flow effortlessly through the space. Handwritten daily specials along with the mosaic-tiled floor will bring the space together forming the vibe of the bistro.

According to Starr, “For the last few years, I’ve had my eye on Wynwood. I’ve witnessed the vibrant and artistic neighborhood transform into a booming cultural hub with an incredible dining scene. People want great food, energy, and a great location; Pastis Miami will be a perfect addition to the community.”

Pastis originally opened in 1999 in Manhattan, while quickly becoming the “go-to” spot for a-listers. In 2014, the building that the restaurant was in sold, and in the summer of 2019, they reopened and Starr joined the team.
