Building collapsed 6/24/2021
It’s heartbreaking about what happened and my heart goes out to the victims.
Prayers
RIP to all the victims
Stayed here 2½ years ago with my relatives (they moved back north over a year ago thankfully). I still can’t shake the eerie feeling 7 days after the collapse. I feel like there ought to be criminal charges against whoever is most to blame. This is obviously not a freak accident nor a mistake. This is negligence to the nth degree. I am not suggesting life without parole or the death penalty like so many people that I know but I think at least 20 years in a real prison is certainly just.
All signs point towards the condo board doing their due diligence and finding this years ago, but collectively the homeowners balked at the growing sum of money needed to address the issue – $15 million as of this year – which led to what happened. It’s possible the building would have stood for several more years, and equally possible that they would have deferred organizing and paying for the repairs just as long.
There is no one sole person to blame (perhaps the original architect? But not really…) It’s a combination of factors (natural and otherwise) that led to this.
What a sad, horrible tragedy. Prayers for all of the victims and their families.
RIP.
One unit, #910, closed a week before the collapse. Tragedy for everyone.
Thoughts and prayers to all of the families. This is truly heart-breaking. I weep for the children lost and the surviving children who lost their families. So terribly sad…
Prayers for the victims..RIP
The condo’s owners association had known for two-and-a-half years about a flaw in the original construction and major structural damage caused by water and salt infiltrating the concrete and eating away at the steel inside. But they failed to fix it.
Prayers to the departed souls and their relatives. Terrible tragedy.
People were truly paying thousands…even millions for what essentially turned out to be a death trap! SMH RIP
I came to the Champlain Towers South page to see photos of what the property USED to look like before the horrific collapse.. 🙁 🙁 So many lives, families with children, adults of all ages & from all walks of life & the poor pets who perished with their families.. 🙁 When the pool deck started to sink & the support columns with half of the building went down, NO ONE HAD A CHANCE..The people who tried to escape in hallways, stairwells & the ones who were trapped in the parking garage didn’t make it out either. ++ I was physically sick & HEARTBROKEN watching the video of the collapse..RIP to to souls lost in THIS PREVENTABLE TRAGEDY..
Shame on those greedy people who let this preventable tragedy happen so they can profit and cut corners to save a quick buck at the cost of hundreds of innocent lives who didn’t deserve this fate and should’ve been warned to evacuate immediately. Evil people worship money, power, and status at the expense of human lives. The love of money is the root of all evil. Hopefully there will be real justice for the victims’ families and appropriate consequences for those responsible for this crime.
Amen to that!!!! – Ashley Dean ( Big sister of Cassie Billedeau-Stratton ) God be with all the families
