Morningside
Morningside is a beautiful neighborhood of Miami’s Upper Eastside comprised of elegant homes and villas by the bay, featuring historical architecture dating back to the 1920s and offering a centralized location. In the 1920s, Bay Shore Investment Company subdivided and developed the area then called Bay Shore, located between today’s NE 50th Street and NE 60th Street, east of the railroad tracks. The greatest building expansion of fine homes in the area occurred between 1936 and 1942, ceasing shortly after the United States’ entry into World War II. Following the War, building resumed and expansion continued throughout the 1950s, with many of the houses completed in that period built by Slote Construction Company. In 1953, the City of Miami constructed a state-of-the-art on the bayfront and named it Morningside Park, and in 1960, a charter was revised to change what was once known as Bay Shore, Bay Shore Plaza, and Plaza Park Homeowners Association into Morningside Civic Association.
In 1984, Morningside was designated as the City of Miami’s very first historic district. Residents of Morningside petitioned the city for this designation, and the 120 houses located between Biscayne Boulevard and the Bay, from NE 55th Street to NE 60th Street became the Morningside Historic District.
